1. Unboxing
1.1 Overview
This video provides an overview of the LX2160A reference design board. For details about the features of the board, refer QorIQ LX2160A Reference Design Board Reference Manual
2. Plug It In
The LX2160ARDB provides a platform for design and evaluation of the LX2160A processor. For details about the features of the board, refer QorIQ LX2160A Reference Design Board Reference Manual
2.1 Connect the board to power supply
Connect one end of the AC power cord to the wall mount power switch and the other end of the cable to the power jack available on the chassis back panel. Turn on the wall mount power switch.
The D28 LED (3VSB) turns ON when the standby power is available.
2.2 Connect the Board to Host Computer for Console Connection
Connect one end of the DB9 female to DB9 female cable to the UART1 port available on chassis front panel and the other end of the cable to the USB-to-serial adapter. Connect the other end of the USB-to-serial adapter to the USB port of the host computer. This connection allows you to make a console connection between the board and host computer to see the console output.
2.3 Run Terminal Application
Run your favorite terminal application to control and monitor the LX2160ARDB from the serial console. Configure the terminal to 115200 baud rate, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit.
To determine the port number of the LX2160ARDB virtual COM port, open the device manager and look under the "Ports" group.

Press the power button available on the chassis front panel. The status LEDs on the PCB run through various patterns while powering up the board. The board boots up and the console shows U-Boot messages.
3. Get Software
3.1 Upgrade Software
To upgrade board software, follow steps provided in the "Upgrading BSP images in LX2160ARDB" section of QorIQ LX2160A Reference Design Board Getting Started Guide

Tera Term is a very popular open source terminal emulation application. This program can be used to display information sent from your NXP development platform's virtual serial port.
- Download Tera Term from SourceForge. After the download, run the installer and then return to this webpage to continue
- Launch Tera Term. The first time it launches, it will show you the following dialog. Select the serial option. Assuming your board is plugged in, there should be a COM port automatically populated in the list
- Configure the serial port settings (using the COM port number identified earlier) to 115200 baud rate, 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. To do this, go to Setup → Serial Port and change the settings
- Verify that the connection is open. If connected, Tera Term will show something like below in it's title bar

PuTTY is a popular terminal emulation application. This program can be used to display information sent from your NXP development platform's virtual serial port.
- Download PuTTY using the button below. After the download, run the installer and then return to this webpage to continue
- Launch PuTTY by either double clicking on the *.exe file you downloaded or from the Start menu, depending on the type of download you selected
- Configure In the window that launches, select the Serial radio button and enter the COM port number that you determined earlier. Also enter the baud rate, in this case 115200
- Click Open to open the serial connection. Assuming the board is connected and you entered the correct COM port, the terminal window will open. If the configuration is not correct, PuTTY will alert you
