When Nemo Zhao joined NXP in Tianjin as an intern, she was looking for an opportunity to apply to real-world projects what she was learning in her Industrial Engineering and Management studies.
Six months later, she was converted to a full-time employee. Today, Nemo works as a Data Engineer at NXP, using data to help improve how work gets done in the factory.
For Nemo, NXP stood out as more than just a global leader in the semiconductor industry.
What particularly appealed to her was the chance to work on meaningful projects and gain exposure to real business challenges from day one. She adds,I chose NXP because it is a global technology leader in the semiconductor industry. I was attracted by its strong innovation culture, advanced technology and opportunities for learning.

One of Nemo's biggest takeaways from her internship was learning how to work across teams and navigate a dynamic business environment.
In university, things are usually quite structured, in a real company, however, you collaborate with different stakeholders who each have their own priorities and perspectives.
Nemo Zhao
By collaborating with colleagues across functions, she developed valuable communication and stakeholder management skills while helping move projects forward.
I learned how to communicate clearly, align expectations and keep projects moving forward, it also helped me understand the bigger business picture and how to balance different priorities when making decisions.

These experiences gave her a broader perspective on how projects contribute to business goals and strengthened her ability to work effectively across teams.
During her internship, Nemo contributed to a Smart Factory initiative focused on the utilization of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) in Ball Grid Array (BGA) wire bonding operations. She also collaborated with colleagues across different teams and projects.
The hands-on experience exposed her to real business challenges and taught her how to navigate complex environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Beyond technical knowledge, the projects helped her build a more structured approach to project execution and decision-making—skills she continues to use today in her role as a Data Engineer.Through these experiences, I learned how to identify project priorities, balance different KPIs and understand how decisions impact the overall business.

When asked to describe the team culture at NXP, Nemo uses three words:
Collaborative. Innovative. Supportive.
That supportive environment played an important role in her early development, giving her the confidence to take ownership, learn from experienced colleagues and grow professionally throughout her internship.
For Nemo, the internship was much more than a temporary assignment—it was the first step in a long-term career journey.
The opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, collaborate with experienced professionals and learn continuously helped build both her technical expertise and professional confidence. After successfully completing her six-month internship, Nemo transitioned into a permanent role as a Data Engineer at NXP.
Most importantly, the internship gave me the confidence to take on greater ownership and prepared me for the next step in my career.

Her story demonstrates how an internship at NXP can give students the opportunity to develop new skills, make a real impact and build a foundation for their future careers.
