This video demonstrates how to use automatic dynamic power control (DPC) calibration tools with the PN7642 and PN5190. The PN7642 and PN5190 are NXP's near-field communication (NFC) reader integrated circuits (ICs) with DPC 2.0, which automatically regulates transmitter output to optimize radio frequency (RF) field strength and ensure EMVCo, ISO and NFC compliance. Proper DPC calibration is essential, especially when using custom antennas, to prevent excessive RF output and ensure reliable operation.
For the PN7642 and PN5190, calibration is a guided process using NXP’s NFC Cockpit software, the ci230 NFC Development and Certification Tool , and a supporting executable—all provided by NXP. The process involves:
This LUT allows the PN7642 and PN5190 to automatically adjust its output current for each voltage step, maintaining optimal RF performance and protecting the hardware. Calibration is performed once during antenna tuning.
Once calibrated, the PN7642 and PN5190 automatically adapts to antenna changes and environmental conditions without host intervention, due to its advanced firmware and hardware integration.
