From hospitals to factory floors, medical and industrial connectivity must support a mix of traffic from hundreds to
thousands of devices sharing infrastructure. To address the needs of these mission-critical environments
where
even minor latency and loss equate to system failure, NXP and Silex deliver a reliable Wi-Fi 6E solution.
In a mission-critical environment, connectivity failures are not an option. For instance, in applications such as
patient monitoring or factory automation, latency spikes and packet loss are significant disruptions, not just
connectivity inconveniences. Past dual-band Wi-Fi generations utilizing the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands were not
designed
to
handle the density of traffic in these environments. With limited available spectrum, the resulting density
increases
congestion and reduces connectivity reliability.
Why Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Is Required for Next-Gen Devices
NXP and Silex hosted a webinar to discuss Wi-Fi 6E requirements for mission-critical
environments.
Wi-Fi 6E supports the 6 GHz band, providing a cleaner, more efficient wireless environment. It enables significantly
lower interference, offers a greater number of available channels to support high-density deployments and delivers
improved determinism—an essential requirement for latency sensitive applications. For workloads such as medical
imaging,
vital sign monitoring and real-time control systems, the availability of clean spectrum directly translates into
consistent, reliable performance.
Tri-band Wi Fi 6E enables systems to intelligently distribute traffic across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz, creating
necessary architectural headroom as wireless connectivity becomes integral to core system design. This capability
allows
a single network to simultaneously support low bandwidth, always on telemetry; high-bandwidth imaging and video
streams;
and latency sensitive, real time control traffic—all without compromising performance.
NXP’s IW623 Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth® Solution
The NXP IW623 is a highly integrated 2×2 tri-band Wi Fi 6E +
Bluetooth System on a Chip
(SoC) supporting operation
across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz. It includes advanced Wi Fi 6E capabilities such as multi-user, multiple-input,
multiple-output (MU MIMO), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and target wake time (TWT). The
device provides PCIe or SDIO host interfaces for Wi-Fi and UART for Bluetooth as well as incorporates NXP EdgeLock®
security. It
targets industrial, IoT and medical applications requiring high throughput and reliable connectivity.
