A serializer/deserializer (SerDes) is an electronic circuit or integrated circuit (IC) transceiver used in high-speed communications to convert data between parallel and serial formats. The comprehensive portfolio of asymmetrical physical layer (PHY), SerDes and bridge ICs transport high-speed video and control data from interfaces such as Camera Serial Interface-2 (CSI-2) and inter-integrated circuit (I²C) over multi-Gigabit SerDes links.

NXP expands its automotive networking and connectivity portfolio with the acquisition of Aviva Links, a pioneer of ASA-based asymmetrical links for ADAS and IVI applications.
ASA compliant solution to securely distribute video and sensor data within Automotive ADAS systems.
The ASA is a non-profit industry alliance of automotive technology providers collaborating to standardize asymmetric SerDes technology. The group currently has more than 160 active member companies that work together to industrialize and promote the “ASA Motion Link”. The member companies of ASA include representatives from the complete automotive ecosystem, including car manufacturers, tier-one suppliers, semiconductor vendors, cable and connector manufacturers, test tool vendors and test houses.
A serializer/deserializer (SerDes) is a high-speed interface technology that converts data between parallel and serial formats. The serializer takes wide parallel data streams and compresses them into a single high-speed serial stream for transmission over fewer physical connections. The deserializer reverses this process at the receiving end, restoring the original parallel data for processing. This approach reduces wiring complexity, improves signal integrity, and enables reliable high-bandwidth communication in space-constrained environments. In automotive systems, SerDes is essential for connecting cameras, sensors and displays to domain controllers with minimal latency and maximum reliability.
The ASA Motion Link defines an asymmetric PHY based on TDD. The downstream and upstream traffic are separated in time, ensuring that the traffic does not overlap on the wire. This results in significant benefits in terms of power, performance and implementation complexity.
