This talk will explore innovations in waveform design, antenna systems and circuit architectures that push the performance boundaries of large-scale multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) radar within the 76–81 GHz band. It will also examine the challenges and opportunities of extending beyond 100 GHz and adopting hybrid sensing approaches that bridge the gap between millimeter and optical wavelengths.

High-resolution radar is becoming essential for future autonomous driving, especially as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) systems become centralized and radar serves as a key confirmation sensor. New application scenarios for high-resolution radar are emerging, and the use of AI at the edge is transforming how radar data is processed and interpreted—enabling smarter, more adaptive radar architectures for autonomous vehicles.

Combining the latest developments in automotive radar sensors with cutting edge test technology, the R&S AREG800A radar target generator and QAT100 advanced antenna array create multiple, highly agile moving objects that are detected by the SAF8544-based Pluto radar sensor.
This demo highlights the controllability, precision and flexibility of the R&S radar test system along with the accuracy and sensitivity of the NXP corner radar sensor operation in a real-world environment.
